Vtg 1977 Post-Vietnam GERBER MK. 2 FIGHTING KNIFE & SCABBARD Mark II Dirk Dagger
The lack of a true US Army issue fighting knife during Vietnam led Gerber Legendary Blades to introduce their iconic Mk. 2 fighting knife in 1967, based on a design submitted by US Army Captain C. The Mark II was a rugged, "all business" combat dagger, with a sleek double edge blade, slim aluminum handle, and leather scabbard. 2 was carried by US Army Special Forces "Green Berets", Navy SEALs, and Marine Force Recon in Vietnam and beyond. This Vintage 1977 Post-Vietnam GERBER MK. 2 FIGHTING KNIFE is in good condition, with moderate rounding and some light nicking to the blade tip, some sharpening to the upper and lower blade edges, some cleaning, scratching, pitting, and spot patina at each side of the blade, some scattered finish abrading to the guard, handle, and pommel, and with some overall age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the knife is in fine shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it features a 6 1/2" bright double edge dagger "wasp waisted" blade with sawtooth serrations along the middle edges, sports the classic black "Armorhide" finished aluminum handle with integral guard and pommel, the latter of which shows a factory drilled lanyard hole, and is stamped at the ricasso with the classic "sword in stone" logo of its maker, the famous "GERBER / PORTLAND ORE USA. It carries the serial number "060858" marked at the reverse ricasso, dating manufacture to 1977, and is complete with the original Vintage 1970s Post-Vietnam Gerber Mk. 2 Black Leather Scabbard in good condition, with the top end of the belt hanger having been neatly shortened, removing the wire hanger, stitching, and rivets that once resided, some light verdigris around the handle retention snap, moderate backward bending to the tie down tab at bottom, and with some overall scratching, crazing, and age wear evident (ALL pictured).
Otherwise, the scabbard is in fine shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it bears a fully functional darkened brass "glove" snap closure left side leather handle retention strap, exhibits the original tie down tab at bottom, and is stamped at the middle front slitted belt hanger with its maker, the famous GERBER / PORTLAND, ORE. The set is a fine example of a very rare, original. Vintage 1977 Post-Vietnam GERBER MK.
