A Genovese dagger, Liguria, 1st half of 19th century. Originally a Genova design, this type of dagger spread over the Ligurian coast in the 17th and 18th century via Southern France to Spain and the Spanish isles. The blade chiselled with animal animal motifs, inlayed with GOLD, featuring a double-edged point. The root deeply chiselled on one side with a griffin attacking a fish, on the other side with a rampart rooster.
