Syrian dagger, circa 1940 or earlier, made in the Druze village of Magdal Shams (Tower of the Sun) in the Golan Heights, the area of dispute between Israel and Syria. Similar daggers are produced today in the same place and style but not to the same quality. Curved blade, 5 inches (13 cm) long has triple fullers.
The handle made from layers and mosaics pieces of horn, bone and brass in intricate geometrical design. Brass covered wooden scabbard is in fair condition. A good example of the daggers made in Golan Heights. Overall length in the scabbard: 26.5 cm (10 1/2).Length of the blade with handle: 24.5 cm (9 3/4). Length of the blade without handle: 13 cm (5).
