This is a fairly rare knife and though I've been collecting actively for well over 60 years I've never seen another like it by this maker. As you can see by its makers marking it was made in Sheffield, England by the John Wilson company, one of that city's most legndary makers of fine knives of every description and best known in this country as makers of knives used to trade with Native Americans in the 1800's. This one, though, was clearly made to put holes in people you don't like. With a spearpoint boot knife blade that is thick and sturdy with no flex and a fatted tang, it's a weapon, plain and simple. Blade is the finest, hand-forged double-shear carbon steel, an early kind of folded steel, something akin to damascus steel, and it would be tough to find finer.Handle scales are old-growth rosewood of the finest quality, the likes of which are no longer available on the modern market, warm to the touch and easy on the eyes. Completing the total package is one of the finest old sheaths imaginable to house this knife. It's even better looking in person than it appear s in the pics. If you're someone who knows the FEEL of fine knives, you won't have to use this knife twice to understand what it's capable of, and you will experience nothing short of a revelation of performance.
Measures 9" overall with a stiff and sturdy 5" blade but by any measure this is a GREAT find at an even better price.
