When this knife was issued to its soldier, the blade had a coating, a nearly solid black coating applied for the purpose of preventing corrosion. Specifically soldiers in areas of the world which were moist and having a salty environment received equipment and gear with protectant.

The blade and knurled brass handle have NO DAMAGE, NO CORROSION, NO DEFECTS. The blade is its full original size, having no evidence of sharpening, no GRIND MARKS.

In varying amounts, the blade still remains TOTALLY covered with protectant, shading exists from cleaning and wiping of blade. (shading = the thickness, the amount of dark protectant remaining or covering the steel blade) If desired, a person could hand steel wool, or sos pad the blade removing any protective coating which remains. Followed by hand polishing the steel blade to a brilliant shine.

Both the knurled brass handle and the carbon steel blade are in a most excellent condition. For the last 40 years this knife has been part of my fathers military knife collection, and the blade and handle have received periodic preservation from surface oxidation using Historical Museum Crystalline Polish, wax. The blade guard is stamped with the word "ENGLAND" having stamped "B2" and a partial broad arrow stamp showing. CONDITION SPECIFICS The blade has 100% of the original dark coating used for corrosion protection at varying degrees of thickness.

Shading from wear, rubbing, cleaning, etc. Both blade edges are crisp and sharp having no defects.

No corrosion exists on blade, or anywhere on knife. Knurled brass handle is in excellent condition. The LEATHER SHEATH is stamped "ENGLAND". Elastic strap for handle is broken. On backside, near the two rivets by the throat or opening for the blade, underneath one of the rivets exists a small tear in the leather.
