I recently bought a collection of Revolutionary War knives, axes, and tomahawks, and this piece was with the collection. A few people suggested that it was a Spanish-American War but from my research, I found an almost identical knife in every way and it was definitely from the Revolutionary War. Everything from the blade shape, the handle style, the fittings, and the peened back, they are all identical. Even the guard is very close. This double-edged fighting knife or dagger measures 11-7/8 long.

The blade alone is 7.75 long. I don't think the handle is made of wood. It almost looks like a very dark horn material. It has been filed into 6 sides.

It has a brass pommel and a brass collar just below the handguard. It has a peened end that was very typical of early knives.

Unfortunately, the brass handguard has one side broken. The sheath is very old but I'm guessing it could be a more recent sheath that was made around 1860s or so. The sheath leather is still quite soft but definitely has a very old smell. I cannot guarantee that this is a Revolutionary War-era knife but I have a feeling it is much older than the Spanish-American War. There is a possibility that this could be from around the Civil War era also.

There are a lot of confederate knives that are close to this style. You will have to use your own judgement on what period this knife is from. Please ask if you have any questions.
