This is my version of one of the types of knives produced by the Hudson Bay Company during the European fur trade era. Dag knives, were essential trade items during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. They were used for heavy chopping, as spear points or spikes on war clubs, as utility knives, for skinning and butchering, and as personal weapons.
But this is no prop knife. The blade is tempered 5160 carbon steel (same as truck leaf springs) and will stand up to anything you can throw at it.It is a practical tool for daily tasks, just as dag knives were in the past. These knives are made for hard use. I make the blades the handles and the sheaths myself.
They are carbon steel and thus, will stain and need to be oiled and maintained. However, they will hold an edge better than most types of stainless steel. I make the blades one or two at a time, hand-grind and carefully temper them. This knife, like all my knives, comes with a cowhide sheath that is stitched by hand with a true saddle stitch.
These are old-school, tough-as-nails knives. YOU MUST BE 18 OR OLDER TO ORDER THIS KNIFE. RELEASE, ASSUMPTION OF RISK, AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT. You must obey your local knife laws. Knives may be dangerous if they are used improperly, negligently, and/or illegally. You also agree that you will teach and supervise minors in the use of the knife and that you will take such precautions reasonably necessary or required by law to keep the knives out of the hands of minors and those not legally allowed to possess them.
