Immediately after the war, all remaining German Mauser K98 bayonets were reused as this new model of Bulgarian combat knives K98. We have even come across knives stamped with the Wafenampt marking. Initially, in the 1950s, they were produced only for use by the Military High School. Then, in the 1970s, this model was used by other army units in extremely limited quantities - only on barracks duty.
In the early 1980s, they were replaced by AK 47 bayonets. Only a few of the Mauser modifications survived the communist regime. They are quite rare today. Two different types of this combat knife are known: with a leather sheath and with a chrome-plated iron sheath K98.
This model was most used by the permanent guards/watchmen and was named "Guards Knife". The grip has bakelite on both sides - remake of K98. Full lenght of the knife: 26 cm /11inches /Blade's length: 15,5 cm /6,7inches. Rare 100% authentic combat knife!
