1970s Custom Made in Oregon, USA COMBAT DAGGER by Ralph Prouty - Complete with 1970s Catalog! This knife was made in the very late 1960s to early 1970s by Ralph Prouty who was a soldier that served in at least one country overseas, and was also retired Law Enforcement (State Police, Coroner, and Detective). He was also my Boy Scout Master back in the 1970s (Troop 599). My mother bought one of his Survival knives about 1969 as a Christmas present for Dad. I got that knife in a trade with my dad back in the late 1980s. I still have that family heirloom. This knife I bought from Mr. Prouty in the mid 1990s, so I have had it in my collection for 30 years or so. The Prouty Custom Made Knives 8-page catalog comes with this historic piece. This knife is believed to be his catalog photo knife and could be one of a kind. Shown on page 5 of his catalog it is called a Combat Dagger. Double edged blade of about 6 3/8 inches length. Overall length is about 11 ¼ inches.

According to the catalog: this blade was made of Forged ¼ inch Columbia Tool Steel AISA TypeW-1. The double combat hilt is made of stainless steel as is the butt cap. The handle is made of Black Delrin and has 3 white decorative spacers at each end. The knife weighs about 9.5 ounces. The knife tang is a full thickness (1/4) hidden Tang of a width between 5/8 and 7/8 inches.

The custom-made black vegetable tanned saddle leather sheath was hand stitched by Mr. Other dimensions: Sheath length is about 11.5 inches and about 2 inches wide. The knife blade is about 1.17 inches wide at the widest point.

The combat hilt is about 2 ¾ inches wide. The handle from hilt to cap is about 4.5 inches long, about 1 ¼ inches wide and about 0.93 inches thick at the thickest point. The catalog itself is a piece of history and provides some interesting reading. It is rare to receive the Knife Maker's catalog with a 50+ year old custom knife.

I also have a newspaper clipping of the memorial service for Mr. Prouty after his passing - that is included with the catalog. Remember - it's all about the story! This knife is very interesting and a usable tool for special purpose individuals.

It has history, and it could be one of a kind! It is very rare at the least case. Thank you for your interest!
